The Committee met on November 24, 2020. The following items were discussed:
The Grant Campus Technology Committee met on November 24th. Josh Wolfson reported that the DEC Committee addressed some issues with Blackboard. Safe Assign (the plagiarism checking software) is not functioning properly. Blackboard is experiencing bandwidth issues due to the increased usage. Blackboard is addressing this issue and expanding its bandwidth. The Retention Center alerts and tracking is currently not reliable. The Committee discussed the issues that faculty are having using their personal computers. Some are experiencing issues with memory capacity of the devices. Also, faculty that have indicated that they are in need of equipment are reporting that the College provided equipment is not current.
A reminder that the awarding of scholarships has moved to a one-year cycle (awarded in the Fall semester only). Therefore, the next scholarship application deadline is May 28, 2021.
The Committee met on 11/5/2020.
Chair spoke to administration about timeline for Part-Time Deans List to be implemented by IT. The resolution is moving forward, but was stalled to lack of personnel to dedicate to this project. Additionally, Chair reiterated a need for official dissemination of information particularly when resolutions are vetoed by administration.
Subcommittees:
Other Business (PED-related issues): As discussed previously, CASC will make editorial revisions to the 2014 resolution (which passed all three governance bodies) to remove waiver for PE classes. Al Heraghty joined CASC meeting to discuss the merits for a resolution to allow PE credits to count toward unrestricted electives. This would mostly affect General Studies Majors (9 credits of UNR electives); however, a resolution would affect all majors with UNR electives (example: Early Childhood Education also has UNR electives in the program). Discussed transferability of PE classes and the potential for a cap. CASC plans to propose a rough draft of a resolution at December Assembly to discuss faculty opinion.
The committee last met on Friday, October 23. Each campus reported on items related to the Bookstore, much of the discussion was focused around the change to the course materials being ordered online this semester due to the pandemic. Some items discussed were: shipping issues with course materials including delays and costs, showing students how to order course materials during orientation, how faculty can assist students with ensuring they are purchasing correct course materials, etc.
The bookstore is requesting that textbook orders be submitted by 11/23 for wintersession and by 12/7 for Spring semester. See the College Brief dated Thursday 11/12 for further details.
