SUBJECT: | Presidential Search |
Later today, a College Brief will be issued to the community announcing the first steps in the presidential search. I am writing to the Michael J. Grant Campus Academic Assembly at this time to specifically share that the formation of the College's Presidential Search Committee aligns with SUNY's direction regarding the composition of community college presidential search committees. The College's Board of Trustees is aware of some conversations seeking to add additional faculty members to the search committee. The committee currently includes the elected Governance leaders representing the three campuses. More than 29% (5 of 17 voting members) of the committee are members from the College's Faculty and Guild governance groups. Please note that the categories for membership on this committee are the same categories Suffolk County Community College has used for prior presidential searches. It is also important to note that SUNY's requirements for community college search committee membership, differ from the membership categories that exist for state-operated campuses, such as Stony Brook.
The search committee membership represents the entire college community, including its major constituencies. A series of forums will be held next month where all members of the college community, whether on the search committee or not, will have an opportunity to share their ideas with the search consultants. Later in the search process, the College will host campus forums to meet the finalists and to gather impressions of the candidates from the members of the college community. I will be communicating via College Brief whenever periodic updates about the progress of the search can be made. I am confident in assuring everyone that our committee will conduct a thorough search with open input that will result in the selection of a strong pool of finalists and, ultimately, a visionary and inspirational leader for our exceptional College.
On behalf of our College's Board of Trustees, I encourage everyone to review the schedule of forums that will be shared in the College Brief that will be issued shortly. Please plan to attend and make your voice heard. I hope you will all make every effort to participate in the conversations that will serve to capture the qualities our community believes the next President of Suffolk County Community College must possess.
